No, that is not true. A lot of plumbers will tell you this however, the 2nd generation bait used today, is anticoagulant bait, so it does not make the rodents thirsty. Rodents will chew through insulation pipes, wiring etc because rats need to keep gnawing as their teeth are constantly growing.
